I recently read where Michael Jordon has purchased a home in Florida for $12.4 million. Here is a crazy little story that won't be widely known. Yes, people may know the famous story how Jordon failed to make the cut on his first try-out for his his high school basketball team, and then went on to become one of the best known figures in sports. However, this is a personal experience I had that came to mind along with a smile as I read the news story about his new home in Florida.

As a young man, I worked at an advertising agency back in the mid 80s when Michael was first drafted by the Chicago Bulls. This ad agency shot one of the very first TV commercials that featured Jordon with a speaking part. I will never forget when members of the creative team came back to the office and reported how disappointed they were with his performance, and predicting that Jordan had no future endorsing products. Yet, Michael went on to become famous for performing his slam dunks and earning the now famous moniker of "Air Jordon".

Talk about a poor call. Many year later and after years of retirement, Jordon has still not lost his touch. People still line up to buy cheap Jordans, or any other product associated with "His Airness". As they pop into your head write them down or if you already have several "to do" lists and sticky notes, locate them all and compile them on one long list. Once you fully switch over from keeping a running "to do" list to scheduling every task, you will feel more relaxed, be more efficient, have more time and you will get more done. "To Do" lists tend to weigh us down. They make us feel like we will never be caught up, never get it all done and as a result, we often focus on the least important tasks.

When you have a running "to do" list you are more likely to stress over what you need to get done because you don't know when and how it's going to get done. By simply scheduling what needs to get done, it will get done when it's time to do it. No more stressing or agonizing over it. It's in your schedule and you know you have time for it, specific time set aside. Even if it's just a simple task like making a phone call, if it's in your schedule you know you won't forget about it and you know it will get done.

Be sure to leave open space in your calendar for interruptions and putting out fires. Also, schedule family time, exercise time, alone time, mealtime and organization time (go through your mail, file, etc). This will help keep you organized and in balance.

Paying Minimum with Your Credit Card Debts Hurts you the Most

One of the most common mistakes, probably the most expensive as well, an individual can make with their credit cards is habitually paying the minimum amount due each month. Without knowing this, it is unfairly burning you more money long term.

It is very easy to make only the minimum payments every time because it is affordable and gives you the chance to spend some amount to other expenses. By freeing up some cash flow, you can get that latest DVD player or that designer's dress you always wanted. Without knowing it, you are destined for a financial disaster short-cut.

The practice of paying the minimum is hurting a lot people who need to work towards financial freedom. Here's an example. If paid with minimum amount due for years, a previously low balance can turn into a very big debt when compounded with interests and hidden charges. This turns out to be a small problem turned into a nightmare and may get over a decade to repay. With multiple credit cards, this can lead to a true financial tragedy.

To fight this problem, you have to pay more than the minimum each due date, probably twice the minimum amount. Make an effort to send your payments promptly to avoid late charges. You perhaps won't notice the extra amount but it will go straight onto your principal. This deducts the debt faster and reduces the interests every time. The more you reduce the balances, the lesser you will have to deal with more interest.

With only the interests and other fees and charges as the ways for credit card lenders to earn profits, the habit of paying the minimum is what they subtly encourage from you. It's essential to know that the credit card companies never let you pay back your balances in small amounts just out of their kindheartedness. This is their business and this is how they make their money. Paying the usual 2% of your balance each month as minimum definitely assures that you will be substantially filling their cash coffers.

As you can afford squeezing it to your budget, increase the amount you pay every time gradually. Try increasing it each month with a certain amount like $10. Soon enough, you will notice that you are starting to actually put a dent in the balance. Trying this step will exactly cut off years of repayment period; thus, saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

SpiderWeb Meets the Sovereign Individual

Absence make the heart grow fonder. I have missed my blogging about being a Sovereign Individual, but have been embedded in self education. The world has changed in just a few short months.

The time away has served it's purpose in preparation as part of my efforts to be mobile, self-sustained, and always being digital.

Blogging by itself is not the path to earning. Anyone that tells you different is a liar, or the exception. Internet marketing is certainly viable and increasing attractive, but not as easy as the gurus would have you believe.

Now I am on the path to a new online business model. Not totally concrete, but I can tell you that automation is still a big part of it. I thought part of that plan would be the auto pilot system called The SpiderWeb Marketing System, but on balance it is a flop. I still use it for lead generation, but other than that it will not perform as advertised.

I still know that the future is about learning how to market online and finding the right tools. I can tell you that it boils down to three things. Keywords, content, and links. I have paid a small ransom to get that part of the formula right. The rest of the formula is unavoidable, and without any shortcuts. You need to learn SEO and you need to learn how to build your own websites...and lots of them.

Seriously, we are talking maybe a couple a week, and possibly one every other day. Now you know why people fail at Internet marketing. It is hard work, and yo have to do it yourself. It involves several skill sets that are not hard, but have to be carried out in sequence. The other variable is time. Not exactly for part timers.

The US Constitution was created under “positive grant.” This means that the Federal Government can only exercise powers that are specifically given to it by the Constitution – nothing more. The Tenth Amendment clearly restates and reaffirms positive grant:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Pretty simple, right? Right. If the power is not delegated to the Federal Government by the Constitution, then that power belongs to the states, or the people. It seems that the only people who could possibly confuse this one sentence are politicians, lawyers, and federal judges.

It’s worth repeating. If a power isn’t specifically listed in the Constitution, the feds can’t do it. Period. Let's get back to enforcing the Supreme Law of the Land. If you want a de facto national ID it should be a US Passport.

You did it. Net Neutrality supporters just won a new round in the fight to keep the Internet open and free of corporate gatekeepers. And it's because you took action.

Over the last three months, more than 23,000 Free Press activists demanded the Federal Communications Commission stop Comcast from blocking Web traffic. Yesterday, the FCC responded, announcing that it would investigate the cable company's Net Neutrality violation.

The FCC is seeking public comment before it decides to punish Comcast. By speaking out now, you can force the FCC to stop all the would-be gatekeepers from tampering with the free-flowing Internet:

Tell the FCC: Protect the Open Internet

Late last year, the Associated Press caught Comcast secretly blocking users ability to use peer-to-peer software to share information with one another. Comcast was using Web filtering technologies similar to those used in China to censor the Internet. AP called the violation "the most drastic example yet of data discrimination."

Free Press and other Internet rights groups filed a petition with the FCC calling for urgent action to stop Comcast's Internet blocking. Tens of thousands of activists sent letters to the agency in support of our petition. Public pressure is now forcing the FCC to act.

Comcast blocking of online content is the canary in the coal mine for corporate efforts to gate-keep the Internet. The FCC must send a stern message to stop other phone and cable companies that want to follow Comcast's lead and control our Internet experience.

Tell the FCC: Don't Let Comcast Off the Hook

Blocking our access to the Internet should never be tolerated. The longer the FCC waits to punish Comcast, the more companies will continue to invest in technologies to censor and manipulate what we can do online.

Thousands of you spoke out against Comcast, and the FCC launched an investigation. Now we need to keep the heat on the FCC to make sure all gatekeepers are punished.

Sovereign Individuals are constantly asked what they are afraid of, and what they have to hide. In an open and a free society, that question should not even have to be considered. The voluntary or authoritative loss of your personal freedoms will not help to stop the bad guys. They already have the resources to create the necessary workarounds, and the latest and greatest that money can buy. Ultimately, there is no legal or moral authority to legitimize the loss of liberty that results from surveillance and police state powers.

Here is a simple test. Are you uncomfortable if somebody peers over your shoulder on a compute screen, or when you make an ATM transaction? Do you send snail mail in an open letter, or do you seal the envelope? Would you keep bank books, credit card statements, or other private records in an open and unattended vehicle?

So here is the point. Your virtual world should be availed the same privacy and protections as your analog world. There really is no reason why emails, search terms, chat sessions, or any other part of your online persona should be an open book. Why should your ISP store and monitor everything you do online as if you are a suspect? Why should any government be allowed to spy on everyday citizens and the general population?

Watching Out for Big Brother with Little Brother

I came across this link while doing searches on encrypted email software and services and thought it was worth a post for the Sovereign Journey fan base. These products and services are starting to get more play. This blog may have been ahead of the curve, but from what I read the rest of the world may be catching up.

Little Brother is here to thwart Big Brother. I have sent away for more information on this product and service, and this is not an endorsement as of yet. Here is some info from the website.

I wanted to post that The Sovereign Journey is no longer frequently updated for the simple fact that there is not enough interest or feedback for this blog. Here is some advice to those of you that may be new to blogging. "Don't flog your dead horses".

Today I post just a few links about a few developments that should be of concern to sovereign individuals living in what is shaping up to become the North American trade zone. These three links concern privacy rights, Second Amendment issues, and new surveillance technology being placed into service.

Second Passports - How, Where and Why

Note: For a long time I have intended to pick back up on posts regarding dual citizenship and second passports. This takes a certain amount of research and reading into account. One of the countries I have been interested in is Panama. I have not personally been to Panama yet. I do, however, have friends that have been there for business and say it is a very interesting place and suitable to be on anyones list.

While researching Panama, I came across this article on Panama and other Central American and South American countries. I have decided to reprint it in its entirety. Introduction - Our Law Firm gets numerous inquiries from clients around the world for second passports and second citizenships. Generally these programs require one to have a substantial sum of money that can be invested. The Panama Instant Passport program requires one to place about $175,000 in the bank in Panama for five years in return for $750.00 a month in bank interest paid monthly and a five-year passport, which includes a five-year residency. Not everyone has this much money to invest, even though they can decline to renew the program after five years and just take their money back making the program practically free.

The concerns with this program are what if the program is not available in five years? What if the program requires more money at the end of five years to renew? Will I need to present another passport to renew this passport at the end of five years or can I renew based on the Panama Passport? We do not know what the renewal requirements will be in five years. This has caused us to come up with alternative measures for those wanting to leave their home country and start all over with a new residency, citizenship, passport, driver license, bank account and Visa card. This is essentially a new start.

South American Passport Free Travel - In the European Union one can travel around the various countries based on a National Citizenship or Permanent Residency Identity Card. This eliminates the need for a passport unless one is going to travel on an airplane or out of the EU. Some air travel may be possible without a passport in the EU. What most do not know if that South America is also operating this way.

Why South America - A number of reasons. The real estate is most affordable. The medical is great and cheap with insurance available for most. Hospitals may be better than what you are used to. Doctors make house calls. Dentistry is affordable for almost all. Food is basically pure as in organic and cheap. Cars cost about the same. Governments are stable, some more than others but homeless people; people living in cars, etc are absent for the most part. A live in maid runs $120 to $250 a month. A full time driver runs $150 to $325 a month. Crime is lower than North America or Europe. Gun ownership is real easy in some countries. Prescriptions can generally be bought without a prescription with few exceptions like heavy pain and sleeping pills. Most of these countries we deal with will not tax money coming in from outside of their country. Some have some form of bank secrecy. Freedom is high; taxes are for most of you going criminalized businesses and the governments tend to focus on real crimes. South America by and large has poor relations with many of the high tax, privacy invasive countries. South America is even starting its own IMF and World Bank called Bank Sur, Bank of the South. Actually it is already open. South America is the place to go for a fresh start. It has everything you have now and then some. You will probably live calmer and better.

Differences between to non-existent in the new country. These countries have The European Union and South America - Some of you may think well why don?t I go to the EU for a residency. Most of what the client is trying to get away from is going to be present in the EU and even more so. There is a severe loss of privacy. Bank secrecy and corporate secrecy is generally just a memory. Taxes have reached the 80% mark in some of the European countries, admittedly there are some social services available but for you in the high-income brackets this sort of taxation would be torturous. Plan on offshore income being taxed and at high rates. Plan on really invasive filing requirements. Plan on paying high VAT rates in addition to other taxes, think 25%. Real estate prices are going to be at least four times higher than South America and in some cases much more than that. Lawyers can run wild there since actions concerning events in one country can be collected in any of the EU countries. Forget asset protection in the EU. The cost of living is generally higher than from where you came from. Weather conditions are generally not tropical or even semi-tropical but they are good for snow skiing and ice-skating. Crime is present in significant levels. I do understand that not all countries have all these factors in play at the higher same time.

Andes Community of Nations - This is essentially a trade block in South America consisting of: Bolivia, Columbia, Peru and Ecuador. These countries allow cross border travel if one has a
residency ID card from any of these countries and they also extend the privilege to those holding a residency ID card from any Mercosur country including associate members. (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela).

Mercosur - Mersocur is another trade block in South America that allows those holding resident ID cards to cross borders without a passport. Mercosur consists of Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina,
Uruguay and Venezuela.

South America Passport Free Travel- This means that one can travel passport free in these 10 countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bolivia, Columbia, Peru and Ecuador.

Residency Advantages - Getting a residency ID card from some of these countries is a process that requires as little as 30 days. Usually a temporary card is issued which becomes permanent in about six months. It is usually required to get a letter with the temporary card stating that the permanent card has been applied for to enable cross border travel with the temporary residency card. This is easy to obtain. Getting a Passport is generally time consuming the exception being the Panama Instant Passport Program, which requires 60 days. Many of the economic Citizenship programs take six months or longer to get a passport and the investment required is usually in excess of $350,000 and this is not money that you get back someday like the Panama Instant Passport Program.

Residency Country Time Requirements in Country- Generally it requires about 30 days initially to apply when you must remain in the country. Please bear in mind this can vary from country
to country. Usually you will need to return for a few weeks to pick up the permanent residency card. You should plan on spending several weeks a year in the country until you get your passport. Down the road two to five years later.

Getting to a Passport - It can vary from country to country. The least amount of time is one has to have a permanent residency for two years and in other countries it is three years or five years. REMEMBER you can always obtain the Panama Passport, which is good for five years in sixty days. Then you have a five-year passport, which will carry you over until the South American country issues you a passport.

Time Spent in the Other Participating Countries - You would be allowed to stay for very long periods of time, months if not years. You would be free to come and go just by presenting your
ID card. You could live in any of the other listed countries, working would be a different matter that would need to be addressed on a country by country basis with legal counsel in the country since there could be a lot of variables involved.

Banking as a Resident - Once you have your permanent residency card which takes about six months, opening a bank account in the country without being required to show your old country passport will not be hard at all. When the residency is temporary the bank will want a passport from somewhere. When you have your permanent resident card opening bank accounts should be easy without you needing to present your passport at the bank registering the account to a citizen of whatever country your passport is from. It helps to get a drivers license in the country which is generally a matter of just showing your existing one. You should be prepared with a local address and telephone when opening a bank account with just your residency ID.

Civil Collections in your New Country - Generally any existing civil debts should not follow you to your new country. We do always suggest banking in Panama through a Panama Private Interest Foundation or anonymous bearer share Panama Corporation. The Panama Foundation has superb asset protection features. The banks in Panama are world class, which is probably not going to be the case in the country granting you the residency. Panama has no tax treaty or civil judgment collection treaty with any other country. What would be advisable is to bank in Panama and transfer money to live on several times a year to your new resident country if you chose to reside there year round. In any event civil judgments, lawsuits etc. following you to your new residency country would be extremely unlikely. How would the creditor know where you are, you are banking with an anonymous foundation in Panama aren't you. These countries are not tolerant of cross border civil processes.

Which Country - We work with several of the 10 countries and can vary the country to suit the needs of the client. Some clients want a country to live in cheaply, safely, with good food, weather and medical. Some want more of a metropolis type environment with lots of nightlife. Some seek beaches. Some want snow skiing. Talk to us; tell us what you need, that?s what we are here for.

Uruguay - This is our favorite. It is the easiest most direct way to get this residency for cross border travel. There are several easy to meet the residency requirements. You can start a business in a duty free trade zone and employ yourself. You can show proof of income like bank statements, this is not retirement income just any income like self-employment income, rental house income, investment income etc. You can buy or rent a house. You can deposit money in the bank ($5000.00). Easy to qualify with several different options available.

General Requirements - You will need a police clearance letter. You will need to undergo a thorough physical in Uruguay. You will need a passport, birth certificate and marriage certificate. You will need birth certificates for minor children and spouse. You will need to be able to obtain a Visa to travel to Uruguay.

Name Changes - We do not get involved with name changes. If you really want to draw attention to yourself this is the way to do it. This is the biggest red flag you can wave. Numerous agencies and governments around the world pick up name changes. If you need a name change consider applying after you have your permanent residency for some time not as a new applicant, but again we do not get involved in name changes so you would down the road need to do it yourself or retain a local attorney for assistance.

Police Records - If you have a police record you may be eligible to apply. It would depend on a number of variables such as the time the offense occurred, the sentence, the offense and the country. Things that would be difficult to get approved would be criminal sentences with more than one year in prison, convictions for drugs, money laundering, weapons trafficking, terrorism, sexual offenses involving force or minors, and crimes of violence. Feel free to discuss this with us if you like. No one knows what will happen until the complete application is presented to the immigration authorities and a decision is made. We cannot ask them for an opinion without them seeing the full application. A criminal record could result in a denial of the application.

Will You Appear Personally in the Immigration Office - The answer is yes. They will fingerprint and photograph you. They will check with Interpol. You will have a local attorney with you who speaks English and Spanish so no translation worries. Your Residency ID card will be picked up by you and the local attorney at the immigration offices. You will be posing for the photo at the immigration office. These are above board programs that all run through the immigration department of the country. It will all be done in a large official government building in
the country.

Extradition Considerations - If you are under arrest, under indictment or criminal charges, out on bail or bond, or already convicted and trying to flee before reporting for sentencing these programs are NOT for you. We cannot help you at all in any way shape or form. You would fail the police records check and Interpol would flag you. This would result in you being turned over to the authorities in the country the offense was from. You would only have tourist status in the country you were applying in, since the application would not yet be approved and tourists get no special considerations under these circumstances. No UN country wants to provide safe harbor to fleeing or wanted criminals. If one country did it then many would do it and then a cross border crime wave would be the result. This does not happen.

Extradition exclusions or protections generally apply only to a citizen or permanent resident AND they must have had that status BEFORE the time the crime was committed. There are usually exemptions for drugs as well so narcotics cases may be extraditable. When the country denies extradition it usually offers to prosecute the person for the crime in his or her own country using their own justice system. This is often a farce since the other country will have to mobilize lawyers to prepare for the trail and attend it, plus bringing in witnesses and evidence to that country. Even then the courts or jury may be most reluctant to hand down a guilty verdict. In any event extradition requests are based on treaties called Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties between countries. So one must read the individual treaty the two countries in question have signed to begin to understand some of the factors that come to bear. Then comes the publicity, severity of the crime and so forth, which seem to also at times work their way into things one way or another. Some of these treaties have an element of dual criminality in them. This generally means that the crime in question must be a crime in both countries. This prevents things like religious, political and racial discrimination from being prosecuted that the person would not be subject to in their own country. Remember if the crime occurred before the residency or citizenship was granted it generally leaves the door open for
extradition, but again this too is not an absolute. We do not specialize in extradition cases nor do we take them.

Costs - This is going to vary from country to country. Plan on a fee of $14,000 for Uruguay. You would have additional fees for certifying documents, photos, travel, housing, filing fees (generally nominal under $500) and so forth. These extra costs are usually not a major consideration.

This story could have been posted on any of my blogs, because it has to do with life in general. It should be retrospective for the digital nomads and sovereign lifers out there.

I saw this at the Nomad4Ever blog, which I have been frequenting. Hats off to Christopher for the post, and hopefully it has been altered enough not to be construed as duplicate content. Either way, it is worth posting to The Sovereign Journey.

BTW, don't know if you have noticed, but the issues of sovereignty and personal freedoms are finally getting some play in the mainstream media. Maybe the sheeples are finally waking up.

The Fat Rich Dude and the Poor Island Fisherman

One morning a fat rich dude on vacation was sweating his way along a Caribbean beach and saw a poor island fisherman pulling in his boat with his meager morning catch.

The fat rich dude stopped and blurted out "not much of a catch today". The poor fisherman politely replied "not much, mon", but smiled on his labor and lamented that even such a small catch was a blessing to be thankful for and would sustain his family.

The fat rich dude rudely replied, "But what the heck will you do the rest of the day?"

"I will spend time with my wife, play with my children, and take a leisurely nap on the beach under a palm tree. Tonight I will have a fine home cooked meal, then go to the local bar with my friends, enjoy the laughter and music, and have a few Red Stripes or Greenies….. I have a simple but happy life, mon", explained the poor fisherman.

The fat rich dude interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I will help you with some advice. I suggest that you start fishing longer every day. You can then sell any extra fish that you catch at the local market. With the extra money, you can finance a bigger boat and grow a real business.

You can use this as a business model to continue to increase your profits and assets. You can buy a second boat, a third boat...and so on until you have a substantial fleet and employees working for you. Instead of selling your fish to a middleman, you can wholesale directly to a big processing plant, and some day plan to open your own plant. You can then leave this simple life behind and experience the culture of a large and modern city. There you can hire mangers to control your enterprises, and further invest your financial holdings."

"And after that?" asked the poor island fisherman.

"After that? Well, once you get to the city, you can really be successful," answered the fat rich dude, chuckling, "When your business takes off, you can go public and sell stock in your company, then later maybe do a reverse merger. You will make a fortune and your worries will disappear!"

"Really? Rich and no worries? What is the final outcome?" expressed the fisherman.

And finally the fat rich dude explained, "Soon, before you know it, you will be able to retire, move to a small Caribbean island like this, sleep late every day, spend time with your family, go fishing, take afternoon naps on the beach, and relax and enjoy evenings with your friends"

Identity Theft Prevention from Spyware, Adware and Keyloggers

Adware, spyware, malware, trojans...it never ends. New threats seem to jump online everyday. It's almost impossible to keep track of what the threats are, what they do and how the threats can put you at risk for identity theft. By Brenda Mahoney

You certainly don't want any of these programs installed on your computer system, but it is even more critical that you understand which malware threats are the most dangerous and which programs you should be diligent in purging from your system.

We have compiled a quick reference on the threats that you will more than likely come across while surfing on the internet and which threats you should remove immediately to prevent identity theft from happening to you.

Spyware: The main intention of most spyware is just that...to spy on you as you surf the internet. To analyze where you go, when you go there, and what you do once you get there. Advertisers use this compiled information to identify what your habits are with intention of putting an irresistible sales pitch before you that you just can't refuse but instead will prompt you to whip out your credit card and make a purchase.

The information gathered can even be more invasive to your privacy by obtaining your IP address that you are assigned when connecting to the internet and matching it to your network card's MAC address. The combination of this collected data with your surfing habits can give advertisers a very clear portrayal of your like and dislikes.

Now I have been conditioned to accept the reality that I am going to be bombarded with advertisements at just everything I do, and I also believe in the pursuit of the all-mighty dollar, but I am not willing to give up every aspect of my privacy while online to help someone make an easy buck.

Adware: Adware programs are usually just plain irritating and can vary from a flashing banner ad, a pop up ad, a toolbar newly installed, to a hijacked search or home page. Adware can often cause conflicts in your system and slow the system to a crawl, possibly rendering your system nonfunctional.

Adware programs are usually packaged together with freeware programs and are installed simultaneously with the freeware program. The adware allows the author to give away his freeware program and still streamline a profit by receiving an income serving ads to you instead of charging you for the program. During installation of the program you are forced to accept the EULA (End-User License Agreement) which allows the advertiser to market directly to you in exchange for the free software.

The goal of some advertisers is to serve you targeted ads by tracking your web habits by installing an additional component to perform this function. In this situation the adware is no longer deemed just adware but instead its status is elevated to the spyware category.

Malware: Malware normally encompasses a variety of programs that can include Trojans, viruses, and worms. Malware is usually intent on causing varying levels of destruction on your system and is normally installed without your knowledge.

Viruses: Viruses received their name due to their ability to multiply and spread from PC to PC. Newbie programmers wanted to show off their recently acquired programming skills and wrote 'prankster' viruses to achieve this goal. Though viruses were initially coded for fun, there are always those who seek to exploit and viruses evolved to performing vicious acts on computer systems rather than just a 'funny' prank.

Worms: A worm is another form of a virus that is programmed to cause some variety of destruction similar to a virus. A worm is replicated by making copies of itself within the computer's memory.

Dialers: Dialers are programs that make a connection to the internet without your knowledge. Dialers often dial 900 numbers and leave you to pay the huge bill that it racks up. Connecting to an expensive internet service provider is another method of a dialer to incur expenses on your behalf. Users of broadband connections can still be at risk if they have a connected modem in their computer.

Trojans: Trojans gain access to your system by opening a backdoor in your computer that gives the offender complete access to your files to do as they wish, including manipulating and viewing your password files stored on the computer.

Once a Trojan is installed, it is usually exploited by many hackers. Most hackers wish to remain anonymous and therefore won't do anything noticeable that would make you aware of their presence. The intent of many Trojans is to transparently use your computer as a zombie to attack web sites or send out email spam.

Assume an internet site is attacked and an investigation follows, where do you think the trail will lead the police...why, straight to your front door of course, meanwhile, the hacker gets off scott-free.

Keyloggers: Keylogger programs are somewhat self explanatory, that is, they log every key you type on your keyboard. That also includes usernames and passwords on websites, such as your bank's website. The hacker can set up a keylogger program to email your typed information to him to use as he sees fit.

There is an abundance of keylogger programs that are free and available for download on the internet. Most people use keyloggers to monitor their spouses or children. Concerned about my children's safety online when they first discovered the internet, I set up and tested a few freely available programs to monitor their online activities. They are remarkably simple to set up and operate.

Physical access to a user's computer is not necessary to install a keylogger program but it does make the scenario a bit easier. Often keylogger programs are sent through email and installed automatically from there. That is another reason to avoid opening any email attachments no matter how tempting they look.

Greatest threats to your identity: So what is the greatest threat to your identity? As you have probably figured out by now, that the greatest threats will usually come from Trojans and keyloggers. It is critical that you take steps to analyze your system for these threats and eliminate them immediately.

It would be my advice to run anti-virus, anti-trojan and anti-spyware removers on your system immediately and to run them on a regular basis once you have removed the threats to ensure you aren't re-infected.

I run several of each programs to be sure I haven't missed anything...but then again, I borderline on being obsessive when it comes to protecting my system and preventing identity theft.

North America Not Alone in Loss of Freedoms

It seems that new found friends the French are getting a dose of what the USA has experienced with the ongoing fear mongering, making way for more executive orders, less control of borders, and the steady stream of freedoms lost since 911.

Remember when fast food chains quit calling French Fries "French Fries" in protest of France? Well, the US and France are buddies again.

Good for them, and the irony is that there would probably be no US of A, if the French had not pulled the US bacon out of the fire to end the Revolution. Now both countries seem to be on similar paths again with regard to loss of liberties.

Call me crazy, but there certainly seems to be a push for global trade zones, and less national sovereignty. The latest being the renewed attempt to ratify L.O.S.T. (Law of the Sea Treaty). It's a great acronym, for much sovereignty is at risk to be "lost".

Steve lives in the UK, and the they have cameras everywhere. Video monitoring of the general populace is a disturbing trend in Canada and other great countries.

Black Helicopters and Paramilitary Police

This is a post about an observation I have had since 911. I just wanted to mention this and see if anyone else has made note of this. It seems that over the last few years all forms of local police are starting to dress more like military personnel. It does not matter if it is state police, sheriff deputies, or local police.

Sometimes they dress in drab, sometimes in camouflage, but usually in black uniforms with lots of pants pockets. Personally, I think this is a form of conditioning, getting us used to the idea of seeing law enforcement dressed in military garb and the notion of a National Police Force.

If you have read anything about FEMA, or researched Presidential Executive Orders, you really don't have to read between the lines. Ever seen those unmarked black helicopters?

The history of Presidential Executive Orders is well documented and a matter of public record as published in the Federal Register. This is a list of some of the executive orders specific to police powers in the USA.

Executive Order 10990 allows the government to take over all transportation and control of highways and seaports.

Executive Order 10995 allows seizure of all communications media in the United States.

Executive Order 10997 allows seizure of all electric power fuels and minerals, public and private.

Executive Order 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms.

Executive Order 10999 allows seizure of all means of transportation, including personal cars, trucks or vehicles of any kind and total control of highways, seaports and waterways.

Executive Order 11000 allows seizure of all American people for work forces under federal supervision. This includes the splitting of families, if the government finds it necessary.

Executive Order 11002 empowered the postmaster general to register all men, women and children in the U.S.

Executive Order 11003 allows seizure of all airports and aircraft.

Executive Order 11005 allows seizure of all railroads, inland waterways and storage facilities, public and private.

Executive Order 11051 gives authorization to the Office of Emergency Planning to place all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

Executive Order 11921 gives the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency the power to develop plans for the control over production and distribution, energy sources, wages, salaries, credit, and financial institution transactions for any undefined national emergency.

Executive Order Number 12148 created the Federal Emergency Management Agency to interface with the Department of Defense for civil defense planning and funding.

Executive Order Number 12656 appoints the National Security Council as the principal body for emergency powers. This allows for the government to increase domestic intelligence and surveillance of "We the People".

Here is another tech gadget promising the convenience of consolidating credit card and banking information in a device that you can carry in place of a wallet.

I see all of these new innovations and alarms go off. Every sovereign individual needs to be vigilant and very protective of personal and financial information. This is just another step towards the push for a one world currency and central banking for all.

It also is another deceptive ploy to pass off the need for Biometrics and RFID tags in everyday life as a normal and acceptable practice.

Here is a tip from a comment left by a recent reader. You can read about the service called "Unlist Assist"
at Unlist Assist Dot Com. I have checked this out online and it does appear to be a legitimate service for those who do not have the time to do this on their own.

This relates to the series on personal privacy, and more specifically this is a paid service to help accomplish removing personal information from public records (Step Number 12). Of course, it would always be better to learn to do this on you own so you can understand the process. Also, I cannot vouche for how successful this company is in providing said services. There are no testimonials that I could find, nor case studies. So, caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). I do like the fact that the company is based in Wyoming for reasons I will not go into now.

This is an unlikely entry to this blog for the sometimes weekly shoutouts that have been dubbed Friday Freedom Links. I found this disturbing story while searching as I often do, for freedom related resource links pertaining to the concept of personal and popular sovereignty.

Given the current state of regional and world affairs, I found it worth reading several times and taking pause. The week's freedom link is from the website featuring the famous newspaper writings known as "My Day".

Not that I am particularly fond of these writings, but intrigued with the perspective of this one individual letter that was featured in the column on January 8, 1959. This letter and this column obviously never really changed anything...which for me as a sovereign individual makes it even more compelling with regard to the recipient of the letter. It is reprinted with "fair use under copyright law" with full credit and reference to the original authors, publishers, and the website: "My Day by Eleanor Roosevelt", and is the only freedom link noted for today.

"Dear Friend:

"I call you friend because I feel that I know you from your writings.

"I would like to tell you an old story. It is a story of a nation which would dominate another. This nation that I tell you of would destroy us as a race, nation and people. It would deprive us of our inherent rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

"It would subject us to its way of life, its own laws, political beliefs and practices and deprive us of a democratic way of life that is cherished by all who live it. It would deprive us of the right to govern ourselves by legislation upon us without our representation.

"It would deprive us of our religious freedom, one of the most cherished privileges of this great land. It would force us into citizenship of their country by legislation without our consent. Through legislation it would force us to pay tribute and serve in their forces in time of war and peace.

"It would deprive us of the right to govern ourselves and settle our internal affairs. It would force us to abide by the decisions of their tribunals. It would hold in its name titles so cloudy that a court of justice would be forced to hang their heads in shame if they upheld them.

"It would name itself protector over us and attempt to prove to the world that all is right in their houses. It would remove our status from us so that we might never again be known as ourselves but what they have made us.

"It would teach our children to be ashamed of their heritage and paint us as evil and savage. It would control the history until the truths are very faint.

"This is an old story but it is also very new. The nation that I tell you of is not Russia. I do not know how they would treat my people.

"The Mohawk people also call you friend because they feel that your attitude is against tyranny and injustice for any. I would ask you to look toward Washington, D.C., when the Federal Power Commission considers the New York State Power Authority-Robert Moses versus Tuscarora Reservation case.

"The Tuscarora Indians are members of the Six Nations Confederacy, as are the Mohawks and others. The lands of the Mohawks are also the lands of the Six Nations. Whatever affects the Tuscaroras also affects the rest of the Six Nations.

"I feel that the Federal Power Commission does not have the right to decide whether the treaties they have made with the United States and which secured the United States in this great land are still of enough value to consider.

"I appeal to your sense of justice and honor that through your influence you might make known the injustices imposed upon us and the real intent of those who would break solemn treaties which are `the supreme law of the land.'

"I pray that the Great Creator might give you of His influence and find reason to smile upon you and cause your heart to sing.

Bandit Telephone Numbers - Privacy Tips and Tricks

I have written about what I call "Bandit Telephone Numbers" before on other blogs, and most recently I have been writing about the Google Grand Central One Number for Life beta, and other telephony services at the Digital Nomads Blog.

One Number or Virtual Number services are really nothing new, in fact I had my first one over 10 years ago. They seem to be coming back in combination with no-cost and low-cost VoIP services, international callback and even video and conference calling supported by easy-to-use online interface services. You probably are thinking Skype and Vonage, but these are newer alternatives.

These numbers in combination with LD Services Like JAJAH and Click2Voice can easily be used to disguise your actual calling location. Since they can be used with cell phones, it is also possible to dump the legacy analog hard line into the house. I currently am beta testing Grand Central, and today just found Click2Voice in a search for new services.

You do have to have a computer and a high speed Internet connection, but as the telephone and computer continue to converge, wireless devices will become the norm. This also is the reason for the battle for open access and the control for the 700 MHz airways. This spectrum will be part of the morph into the third pipeline connectivity to the interwebs and a true wireless network for both voice and data.

There actually are enough options now to create you own local and remote calling network for personal privacy and security without spending a fortune, and in many cases you can even accomplish this for free.

It also is safe to say that you can throw away your telephone calling cards. There will be no reason to carry those around any more (if you at least have your cell phone handy). Please leave a comment with your experience or thoughts.

Credit Cards and Debit Cards - Privacy Tips and Tricks

Try to avoid using credit cards altogether, but carry one or two for emergency use. Charge cards like the American Express Card are a better alternative to credit cards that have high monthly carrying charges and late charge fees associated with them. Never use charge cards, bank debit cards, or revolving credit charge cards for personal identification. Never allow merchants to write down card identification numbers on other instruments like on the face, or back of checks.

Use debit cards and credit cards in the name of a business. Business debit/credit cards do not necessarily have to have your name imprinted. Most credit cards can be processed as a credit card. Be careful to guard PINs (Personal; Identification Number), as debit cards are not protected against fraudulent transactions, or by the same liability limits as credit cards. In effect, debit cards are like using cash and debit your account immediately. Virtual Online Credit Cards are also an option (including PayPal and other online payment systems).

Consider using prepaid or "stored value" debit cards like NetSpend, Travelex Cards, or the AAA Cash Passport Card, that are not tied to a business or personal bank account. These are becoming more popular worldwide and often have anonymous features, using only an account number with no imprinted personal information.

Finally, one foolproof way to secure your cards is to not sign the "Signature Strip" on the back, but rather print "See I.D", forcing merchants to ask to verify identification (I use a passport).

In reviewing the "15 Steps to Personal Privacy Series", I realized that there are a few tricks I have learned over the years that I need to write as post scripts. I am going to call these Privacy Tips & Tricks, and post them as I think of them in no particular order.

What made me think about this was my last post on opting out of mailing lists. This is a trick I learned many years ago while employing the services of an attorney in Chicago. As I entered his office for our scheduled appointment, I found that he was sitting calmly at his desk loading down Business Reply Envelopes with the contents of the original unsolicited "Junk Mail" that he had received.

If he determined each individual envelope was not heavy enough, then he would wad up some extra scrap paper, a few things from the waste basket, or maybe other items on his desk like paper clips.

Perplexed, I asked what on earth he was trying to do. His response was that this was the quickest and easiest method to get off unwanted mailing lists.

Say what? What could the trick possibly be? The prepaid business return mail arrives back to the sender postage due, and yes it works.

Four Levels of Privacy: Part of the 15 Step Series

It is hard to determine how much longer the following privacy guards will be available or legal to implement. Governments seek more controls, civil liberties continue to erode, and far too few individuals question the push for national IDs and a global society of growing and pervasive surveillance. Many may find the following strategies odd and possibly extreme.

The following conceptual levels of privacy are in large part taken from J.J. Luna as described in his book, "How to Be Invisible: A Step-By-Step Guide To Protecting Your Assets, Your Identity, And Your Life " (still worth a read).

LEVEL ONE
Your telephone number is unlisted and your “permanent” mailing address is not connected to your “true residential address”. Perhaps you even do not have a hard line telephone, but rather rely on the mobility and convenience of one or more cellular phones. You now have more privacy than 98 percent of the general public.

LEVEL TWO
Your utilities and telephone numbers are in nominee accounts, or secured by large security deposits. Your license plates and vehicle registrations do not reveal your legal name or true residential address. You are guarded about giving out your SSN (Social Security Number) and DOB (Date of Birth). Your legal name and true residential address are not criss-crossed in directories, mailing lists, or computer data bases. You shred all of your mail and monitor your trash before discarding it at home and at the office.

LEVEL THREE
Your personal residence(s) and other real and personal property is legally owned by trusts, or other asset protection, or business entities. Each vehicle is in the name of a trust or LLC (Limited Liability Company). Your banking and business affairs are largely carried out by associates per your decisions and instructions. You never answer your door to strangers. When you travel you use a legal variation of your own name or an alter ego.

LEVEL FOUR
You no longer have a target painted on your back. You go quietly about your business, and don't draw attention to yourself or your actions. You live well, but are not flashy. Only close friends and business associates know your true whereabouts as you enjoy your travels around the country, or around the world. You have no magazine or newsletter subscriptions in your name. You have cut all ties with clubs and organizations. You will never work as an employee again. You may have dual citizenship, and even new and legal alternative ID.

Many people may question, or even have pause as to why the fuss for personal privacy. If you have similar questions, then you probably are not aware of your eroding freedoms, and quite honestly you are probably part of the problem and not the solution.

If you cop the attitude "I have nothing to hide", you are unfortunately part of this group. You have been duped into believing that your life should be an open book.

This series is not meant to convince you of any present and future threats. This series of posts is for those interested in taking some self directed action. As a prelude to this series, listed here are a few of the reasons why you may want to consider effecting a plan of action for protecting your privacy.

you have been or want to avoid being a victim of identity theft,
you have been or want to avoid being a victim of harassment,
you could be falsely accused or arrested,
you have been sued or want to avoid threats of being sued,

and of course, let's not forget your online identity and Internet security. This could be a short list, a long list, or a totally irrelevant list, depending on your occupation, income, social status, and your view, awareness, and your understanding of political, geopolitical and world events.

Ghosts in the Machine for Friday Freedom Links

The very first installment of Friday Freedom Links mentioned the exceptionally informative Canadian blog, "Ghosts in the Machine" as being well worth a special post. This blog by Sharon Herbert (Sherbert) is fairly new and is already getting much attention.

Freedom Fridays - Links for May 25th

A holiday weekend with Memorial Day coming up and a good time to think about your personal privacy and personal freedom (or the loss of same).

I did an internet search recently on the term "Freedom Fridays" and came across the idea of making a silent statement by "Wearing Red on Friday" as far back as May 2004 in several posts (see additional posts listed below for full explanation). That's three years ago. Think anything has changed? Actually, the concept is referenced as far back as the resistance movement in Norway Circa 1940.

Here is part of the post:

"...our Government is defining "freedom" in ways that make too many Americans perceive that it is risky to oppose the administration's policy? -- and, in particular, current inroads about individual freedoms and policies in the U.S. and abroad. However, many of us DO oppose what our government is doing to individual rights..."

There are many different viewpoints voiced. including ridicule, but in reference to the current political climate it does not feel to me like something that should be taken lightly.

Your ISP Now Under Watchful Eye of Government

Starting yesterday the government has the ability to wiretap your Internet connection, and this includes common carriers, facilities-based broadband Internet access providers, and providers of interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP service). The article goes on to describe how the US Justice Department has lobbied the FCC since 2002 to interpret existing law to include the Internet. Needless to say, more freedom is being taken away from the individual little by little.

Real ID a Loser for Everyone , Not Just Sovereign Individuals

The argument is always the same. What are you worried about if you don't have anything to hide? The push for a National ID and no debate for such should now be of concern to every law abiding individual.

It makes no sense that a government be so concerned about documenting and tracking its own citizens when the issue of open boarders, illegal aliens, guest workers (or whatever you want to call the estimated 12 to 20 million undocumented people living in this country) has not first been remedied. What has happened to of the people, by the people, for the people?

All people, whether sovereign thinkers or not, need to start asking what the hidden agenda of this government is, and why such pretentious laws are being forced on a nation without debate or a forum of those being governed.

We do not need a national "Real ID" when passports can and do represent the de facto national ID, and the Homeland is not yet the Fatherland.

When we think of personal freedom, we do not go far beyond our everyday lives. We don't think much about it at all. We take it for granted, we assume its presence in our lives, until we face losing that freedom.

It could be something as simple as publishing a statement that our leaders will consider radical; it is happening every day now. It could be that you thought you could send your child to school with a T-shirt that says God is King. It could be that you are part of a group that is proactive in upholding American laws, principles, and, ideals, which will classify you as a radical, militia, or worse... You see, if you simply go through life with blinders on, and, don't notice what is going on around you, or, you choose to ignore the obvious, you are risking your very rights to personal freedom.

Our personal freedoms are being whisked away, each day, whenever it suits some branch or stem of the government to do so. It could be that the American Civil Liberties Union and, other advocate groups, decided that freedom of speech should be grazed that there will be no active minds stating their views. It could be that you protest certain reforms, or war. It could be that you write in the privacy of your home about the state of the union. It could be that you carry a large cross, banner, flag, or other such symbolism. It could be that you have been singled out because you are a known rebel of current trends.

Whatever you do, may be subjected to being labeled and illegal, even though, you are not aware of it. Laws are being rewritten to make illegal immigrants feel at home, they are being revised due to increased homeland terrorist cells and supporters, which many of, are illegal immigrants, they are being reversed to fit the will of whom might think that you, a private citizen, is standing in the way of progress or peace.
